eXistenZ

I saw this film years ago alone (one of my friends told me it’s scary but it wasn’t) I was bored and grossed out half way through the movie and never thought that I’ll be force to watch it again at uni. However, I actually find it interesting this time and that’s probably because of the reaction of other students in lecture theatre to different scene of the movie.
I wasn’t clear about threshold concepts or what should I write about eXistenZ but after some research on internet and read other’s blogs I think I get the idea, hopefully.
Narrative- the story line of this film is made up of different layers and that’s what makes it interesting. We are first introduced to the main characters Allegra Geller and Laws character Ted as game designer and her assistance who are escaped from the group of anti-games society but soon we step into the virtual world of the eXistenZ game and try to figure out what are the rules of this new world and how it functions. But as soon as we get use to this new environment we realise that’s all of the incidents we have just witness was part of the other game named transCendenZ. In the end, we left with the question in our mind that was it real or was it part of another game?
Interactive- there was scene in the movie which Allegra try to convince Ted to come back in the game.
‘You're stuck now, aren't ya? You want to go back to the Chinese restaurant because there's nothing happening here. We're safe. It's boring.’
I think that’s why people love playing video games or watch movie. Because they can offer their audience the possibilities they never have in their real life. In chines restaurant Ted kills the waiter and you can tell that he enjoy doing it. We all may not be violated people in our life but we may enjoy watching characters get killed in the movies or kill some zombies in video games. In eXistenZ we keep questioning our self what’s real and what isn’t? Is it right to kill character if we know he is not real? What if in future games can offer a new experience like what the main characters experience in the movie?
